About the Group

Gloucestershire Lettering Arts (GLA - incorporating Glevum Scribes) is a non-profit making, Cotswold-based society for calligraphy enthusiasts, offering an arena for professionals, committed amateurs and newcomers to enjoy the many and varied aspects of the lettering arts of today.

Our Aim

GLA aims to raise the level of awareness of calligraphy, lettering and the book arts. These expressive art forms - graphically interpreting thoughts and ideas, invariably convey meaning before words are actually read.

Welcome to Gloucestershire Lettering Arts!

Our Workshops

We run monthly workshops at Highnam Community Hall, usually in the Gambier-Parry Hall and we have an interesting varied programme for the coming year.

Time to start thinking about our exhibition 2012

"Rural Writing"

at the Gloucester Folk Museum

from October to mid-November

We will have a whole room to show items on the walls or behind glass casing. We'd like work that you have not displayed in other GLA exhibitions, it may be new or at least fresh to us and our audience. The theme is rural, so plenty of scope for your own interpretation. Remember that the museum celebrates "Apple Day" in half-term, so that might provide some ideas too. And it is a museum - items on the history of writing would be appropriate too, if rural writing and apples are just not your thing.
